Performance Coaching

Performance coaching supports individuals in developing a healthy, confident, and authentic relationship with performing. Rather than focusing only on technical preparation, it explores the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of performance — including presence, focus, performance anxiety, self-confidence, preparation strategies, communication and managing pressure.

Drawing from my work with Mind for Stage as well as my counselling and performance coaching qualifications, these sessions aim to help those who perform feel more grounded, expressive, and connected in situations where they are required to perform, present themselves, or navigate expectations. Coaching can support professionals, students, creatives, educators and anyone preparing for performances, presentations, interviews, public speaking, examinations, auditions, or other high-pressure situations, while also encouraging long-term resilience, creativity, self-awareness, and a more sustainable relationship with performance in everyday life.

About

My work in performance coaching grew naturally out of many years of life as a performing musician, educator, and mentor. Throughout my own artistic journey, I became increasingly interested not only in how musicians practise and perform, but also in how they experience performing emotionally and psychologically. I noticedhow many talented musicians struggle with performance anxiety, self-doubt, pressure, perfectionism, lack of confidence, or feelings of disconnection — often despite being highly skilled and dedicated.

This gradually led me to deepen my interest in performance psychology, and support individuals through further training in counselling skills (integrative approach), as well as to create Mind for Stage. To further expand my work in this field, I completed the IAFPD Certificate in Stress Management and Performance Coaching, deepening my understanding of performance psychology, wellbeing, and mental resilience.

Performance coaching sessions are held online in a calm, supportive, and confidential environment. Rather than traditional 'teaching', these sessions function more as guided conversations and reflective work tailored to each person. Depending on the individual's needs, sessions may explore topics such as:

  • performance anxiety and nerves

  • confidence and self-belief

  • preparation for performances, interviews, presentations, concerts, etc.

  • focus and concentration

  • perfectionism and fear of mistakes

  • stage presence and communication

  • motivation and creative blocks

  • balancing wellbeing with high-level performance

The sessions often combine practical strategies, discussion, listening exercises, reflective questions, visualisation, grounding techniques, and elements drawn from my experience as both performer and teacher. Some musicians also choose to perform/practice during sessions and analyse, while others prefer to focus entirely on the mental and emotional side of performing.

My aim is not to “fix”, but to help individual to feel more connected, resilient, expressive, and at ease within their own process.
